I grew up in Fleetwood but left in 1978 so I suppose it has changed a bit!! My brother is a bus/tram driver there but he doesn't do ballroom dancing. We will have to wait for Lynn to come along and give us the updated version!

Hope you have a great time with your friends if you decide to go Christine. Say hello to the sea - I still miss it! XX Ailsa

I'm afraid i don't like Blackpool as it has become now Chrissy.
Lytham is much nicer.
As for the dancing I would imagine the Tower Ballroom should be pretty good. Have you contacted the place itself?
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

i am not a lover of the place either im affraid, i was there 2yrs ago and felt uneasy in the evenings ,but i put it down to age, but we did enjoy the bus tours around town and surrounding areas, they were worth the ticket for a day, you hop on and off special buses all day, i will say now as everywhere they have undesirables, my husband was over 6ft and a big man and he was wary but go and enjoy its what you make it, we did have a good time, cold and windy but ok.hope you get up the tower, everytime i have been its closed, due to weather, take plenty money with you, its not cheap anymore.

DO GO, be brave and daring

Hi Chrissie

Go for it!!

As I said on Facebook it is not for everyone but things have changed and continue to do so. A lot of money is currently being spent on regeneration but it takes time like anything; a new tramway system and promenade is currently under way, amongst other things.

The Tower ballroom is great, sprung dance floor the lot. You couldn't fail to enjoy dancing there! My Mum was a professional dancer and was a regular at the Tower! Strictly is from here next week, so have a peak!

Avoid August and you will be fine! Great zoo, lovely big park with boating lake, three piers with shows in the season, Sandcastle and Pleasure Beach. Theatre and good shopping. Close to Lancaster for culture with several theatres and Williamson Park and its Butterfly House. Close to Yorkshire and just up the road to the Lake District.

Unfortunately Julie, Lytham is fast losing it's edge. Lots of shops have closed or are now operating as charity shops. Lots of houses have been repossessed and are in disrepair. Sign of the times and just not the same appeal. St Annes has seen some improvement along the front and town centre. Fleetwood is also quite revitalised but more for the summer months.

Do ask if you want more info!

Well we have booked .
The reason we are going is my Friends are great dancers they live in Malta and would love to go too the tower .

we said to them i don,t think you will like it .As they are not used to places like that ..But as Lynn said the changes may for the better .And last time i went was about 1992 our son was in a buggie. But as Lynn said changes
So encase they hate it .And plus they will have to get puplic transport and the flights are late ones .So too help
We are picking them up and bringing them to Blackpool then staying very close so if they can get out and about and get back for the tea dances .
being helpfull ha ha then they are coming back to good old Norfolk .But i think with puplic transport they would be struggling .

So i am hoping that we will enjoy Blackpool .Or with a bit of input into the holiday too make sure we enjoy .
and with a car if they feel uneasy walking at night will go and feach them .

I will make sure we see the best Blackpool has to offer and the standby the car so can go out .
Blackpool after Malta will be a shock to them .But we are going to enjoy our selfs no matter what .They know what too expect

Hi Christine,

We had a great fun weekend their a few years ago with the boys, to me it was just like an old fashioned seaside town.

Hi Chrissie Smile

Great to hear you have booked! When are you coming? I will try to meet up with you whilst you are in town, your schedule permitting of course! how long are you staying for?

In some respects the town has retained it's old fashioned seaside image. We still have our three piers with live shows in the season, the Grand Theatre with some great live performances, the Winter Gardens Opera House and much more as well as the addition of the more modern facilities such as the indoor Sandcastle Water Park, the Pleasure Beach with it's Big One and Ice Rink and improved shopping centre.

You could spend a day in the Tower alone visiting the Aquarium, the top of the Tower and walk of faith, the circus, the ballroom and various restaurants. Some new attractions are coming next year too. Nearby we have Louis Tussauds Waxworks and the Sea Life Centre.

If the weather is good a tram ride is a great experience, from Blackpool through to Fleetwood along the Fylde Coast. At the moment the tram way is up as new track is being laid for the new super trams. It's been a huge project but hopefully a very worthwhile one.

You will all enjoy yourselves ThumpUp (Oops ... didn't mean it to sound like an order!! )
